Here’s the latest amazing news for all people who love music and want to visit Pompeii!
Forty-five years after Pink Floyd’s historic show in October 1971, better known with the name of “Live at Pompeii”, that was also captured on one of rock’s greatest concert movies, the band’s guitarist and singer David Gilmour will return to the Amphitheatre of Pompeii with two dates on July 8th and 9th. These concerts are part of his world tour "Rattle That Lock”.
Also, one of the most important British singers in the world, Sir Elton John, has chosen the same location for his third concert of 2016 in Italy, scheduled on July 12th, to showcase his new album "Wonderful Crazy Night". He is expected to play some tracks from his latest album as well as singing the classics from his repertoire.
The concert has not yet been listed on the 68-year-old entertainer's official website but is advertised online by D'Alessandro e Galli.
"Elton John in the most evocative setting, July 12, Pompeii", the promoter's website says.
In addition to the concert at Pompeii, the star has also confirmed two other shows in Italy. On July 15th he will play Piazza Colbert in Barolo, Piedmont and on July 16th he'll perform at Piazzola sul Brenta, in the region of Veneto.
The amphitheatre is the oldest stone building of its kind, built in 80 BC. Until 79 AD, when the city was buried by the erupting Mount Vesuvius, thousands of ancient Romans regularly crammed inside to watch gladiators do battle. Now you can go inside this spectacular building by planning a journey to Pompeii not only to do a visit inside one of the most famous archeological sites, but also to enjoy these two fantastic concerts planned in July.
Two great concerts which make the ancient city of Pompeii even more attractive as place to choose for your next summertime vacation!
David Gilmour, on his Facebook profile has wrote: "I want to thank the Ministry of Heritage and cultural activities and tourism, Dario Franceschini, for giving me the opportunity to once again play this beautiful and historic venue. Performing there in 1971 was very special and I'm looking forward to returning and hopefully creating some more memorable moments made even more special by playing to an audience". And Massimo Osanna, superintendent of Pompeii commented: "The return of Gilmour in Pompeii is an extraordinary event that the Superintendent and the Ministry has strongly backed. Pompeii, now more than ever at the height of its rebirth, is ready to welcome this great artist ".
