Meet your local tour guide at your preferred time in front of the Hotel Vittoria in Piazza Porta Marina outside the entrance to the ruins. He or she will have a printed sign with your name on it.
You will have a 3-hour private tour of the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii. You will experience how Pompeii looked 2,000 years ago through the magic of Virtual Reality. You will be surrounded and completely immersed in 360-degree virtual reality that goes on a historical journey through ancient Pompeii - just as it was before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
A professional guide and staff member will check you in and give you your 'time traveling equipment' (your VR headset). You will follow your guide into the ruins and arrive at your first point of interest. Listen to your fun and passionate guide as he or she speaks about current points of interest. Next, you will be instructed to put on your virtual reality headset and witness the point of interest you are standing in front of come back to life right before your eyes! The streets, homes, taverns, temples, theaters, markets and citizens of Pompeii live again as they once were.
After watching each 2- to 6-minute 'virtual reality scenes' you will have time to take pictures and speak with your guide.
After your private tour is complete your guide will show you to Caupona Restaurant, which is located within easy walking distance.
A "caupona" was a tavern, a place where the ancient people of Pompeii had their daily meals (we can count 89 in Pompeii and many of them are along Via dell'Abbondanza. It was common to meet most of the inhabitants of Pompeii there, and not only). They were usually crowded and functioned as a meeting point to have a frugal dish with a few assi (coins). After nearly two years of accurate work which encompassed projects, scenography and so much more, on 21st April 2016 (in conjunction with the date of the birth of Rome) we opened the doors to this exciting project. Faithfully recreating Lucio Vetuzio Placido's caupona, which we can still find today in Via dell'Abbondanza, taking care of every small detail meticulously, so that the spectator, the client can perceive the sensation of being in another era. Welcomed in a magnificent setting made in third style hand-decorated frescoes, they capture the attention giving a strong sensational impact. The warm overhead lights in warm tones among the beautiful tables made of solid wood and the perfect reproduction of the chairs.
Eat in earthenware dishes and drink from beautiful pointed amphoras, glasses and cups. Special attention is given to music, among harps and cedras, and sounds from the past, so much so that it seems to really be in a "caupona". The cuisine is mainly based on the discovery of distant flavors and the ancient times bringing to light ingredients that are not often used in our kitchens so as to achieve a genuine and balanced menu. The Apicio’s menù reflects the antiquity, a tasting, where you can have a full immersion in vegetable, wild game, meat or fish dishes, and without leaving aside Mulsum wine (spiced wine with honey, ginger and various spices) which Romans usually drank. For the most delicate palates, we have a menu with a contemporary flavor full of Mediterranean nuances, between contemporary and gourmet. We take special care of celiac, vegetarian and vegan customers.
Menu includes 4 courses, one glass of Mulsum (wine) and water.
